SAM Late Nights:
A Night To Remember

2025
Singapore Art Museum & Wormhole
Illustration, Art Direction

In conjunction with Heman Chong’s first major survey exhibition, “This is a dynamic list and may never be able to satisfy particular standards of completeness”, I worked closely with both SAM and Wormhole to design the key visual and collaterals for an evening of memory-making... and testing.

ConceptTaking the term “Core Memory” somewhat literally, this concept is a playful yet striking visual metaphor: the mind games of the night will be so impactful, they leave a mark on our audience’s mental core. Each core features the key games from our event.

Initial concept sketches

Inspired by the phrase “doing mental gymnastics,” this concept explores the brain's quirky process of retrieving memories. Set within a thought-cloud shaped like Heman Chong’s white cat, the brain cells enjoy pun-filled rides: a trip down the memory-slide, digging in a head-shaped sandbox, and swinging through the ups and downs of recall — all brought to life with Wormhole’s iconic mascots.

This idea captures our title in a more direct and relatable way. Here, our character looks back fondly on the night filled with fun and games with Wormhole, preserving those joyful moments through photographs. We’re telling our audience: “You’ll want to hold on to this night.”  It’s a simple yet powerful reminder that this event won’t just be attended — it will be treasured.
